Welcome to A Spot on the Spectrum - A Space for Connection & Education About Autism Spectrum Disorder

Hello and welcome! My name is Helen, and I am the creator and voice behind A Spot on the Spectrum. I created this blog as a safe space to share knowledge, professional insight, and personal experiences centered around autism spectrum disorder, also commonly referred to as ASD.

With a mixed background in education and healthcare, including counseling, I have spent many years exploring the complexities of neurodevelopmental conditions with a significant focus on autism. Becoming a mother to a now almost 13-year-old son who was diagnosed with ASD at a young age further fueled my passion and desire to discover new things about autism to share with others, leading to the start of my journey in clinical psychology. As an emerging psychology student at a doctoral level, I recognize the need for accessible, honest, and respectful conversations that reflect science and life experiences - which this blog aims to provide.

Whether you are a parent, educator, advocate, mental health professional, individual on the spectrum - or simply someone piqued to understand more - this space is for you. Here, you will find thoughtful and educational articles, practical information and strategies, personal reflections, and curated resources to inform, inspire, and empower.

I hope to foster a supportive community where diverse perspectives are welcomed and valued, misconceptions are challenged, and meaningful dialogue and connections are encouraged. More than anything, A Spot on the Spectrum is grounded in a fundamental belief that every individual deserves to be seen, heard, and respected.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. I am excited to share educational information and stories, explore ideas, and connect with others equally as passionate about spreading autism awareness as I am. Please feel free to connect by commenting or sharing your thoughts, experiences, and perspectives - I welcome all the conversations.

Warmly,

Helen
